His major research interest is in cognitive impairment in Type 2 diabetes and he is one of the principal investigators of the Edinburgh Type 2 Diabetes Study. He has published over 100 original articles and book chapters. He gave the R.D. Lawrence lecture at the 2010 Diabetes UK Annual Professional Conference and previously was a member of the Diabetes UK Research Committee. He is editor of the award-winnging book ‘Davidson’s 100 Clinical Cases in Medicine’ and has also co-authored a pocket-book on ‘Insulin’. He was recenly appointed as an editor of the major international medical textbook ‘Davidson’s Principles and Practice of Medicine.’
