Matthew H. Shirley

I am a conservation scientist working at the Tropical Conservation Institute of Florida International University and the Rare Species Conservatory Foundation. My research interests involve better understanding the ecology and evolution of rare, charismatic, understudied fauna like crocodiles, pangolins, and tortoises in West and Central Africa. To better address these research topics, I employ tools ranging from molecular markers and eDNA to tracking and telemetry and population surveys.
