Bio
Matthew L. Whitaker currently works in the Mineral Physics Institute and the Department of Geosciences at Stony Brook University. Matthew is an experimental geochemist/geophysicist who studies the physical properties of Earth materials across a range of P-T conditions. He is particularly interested phase relations, metastability, phase transitions, and thermoelastic properties under extreme conditions of pressure and temperature. His background is in mineralogy, petrology, chemistry, and planetary science, and he uses tools such as electron microscopy (and EMP), spectroscopic techniques, and a wide variety of synchrotron X-ray techniques to conduct his experimental studies.
