I am a professor in The School of BioSciences at The University of Melbourne, and also one of the principal researchers in the Quantitative and Applied Ecology Group in Botany. I am interested in developing, evaluating and applying models to assist environmental management. My research spans many areas including detection of invasive and rare species, population dynamics, fire ecology, synthesis of ecological data, ecological indices, and environmental risk assessment. I teach in the area of Environmental Science mainly at the post-graduate level, coordinating the Environmental Science stream of the masters programs at The University of Melbourne. I am an honorary associate of The Australian Research Centre for Urban Ecology, where I worked previously. Prior to that, I completed post-doctoral fellowships at The Australian National University, The University of Adelaide, and at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS; UC Santa Barbara).
