Michael J Ombrello

Michael Ombrello leads the Translational Genetics and Genomics Unit in the Intramural Research Program of NIAMS. His primary research focus is systemic arthritis and other forms of complex autoinflammation. His group utilizes genetic, genomic and bioinformatic approaches to discover genetic elements that influence disease susceptibility. Using cellular and mechanistic studies of candidate variants, they seek to elucidate the causes of seemingly unprovoked inflammation. Ultimately, they seek to translate novel mechanistic insights into new or targeted approaches to improving the treatment of systemic arthritis and other inflammatory diseases.
