My research experience and expertise spans ecological and evolutionary processes operating at all levels of complexity from molecular to global, gained from nearly 40 years of professional experience as an ecologist. Included in my research have been studies of aquatic (marine and freshwater), semi-aquatic, and terrestrial systems in North America, South America, Australia, Melanesia and Polynesia. A primary focus of my research program has been the exploration of processes that generate and maintain biodiversity and how this knowledge can be used for effective conservation and resource management through the application of active adaptive learning approaches.
