Prof. Moses Aikins, an Associate Professor in Health Policy, Planning & Management, has a PhD in Health Economics & Policy (1995) and a Diploma in Public Health and Policy (1996) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London (UK). He worked as: Assistant Economic Planning Officer, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Ghana (1984–1990); Social Scientist, Gambia’s Medical Research Laboratories, The Gambia (1989–1995); Head, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, Ghana Population Council Secretariat, Ghana (1996–1997); Senior Consultant, JSA Consultants Ltd, Accra (1997–2000; 2002–2006); and Technical Officer, WHO (2000–2002). He joined the School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana in 2007 after a year part-time teaching. Prof Aikins has over 25 years professional experience in economic evaluation (i.e., costing and cost-effectiveness analyses) of public health and population interventions and programmes (i.e., tropical diseases - malaria, filariasis, buruli ulcer, rotavirus diarrhoea) and family planning and HIV/AIDS at national, regional, district and programme levels; immense experience in health care financing such as evaluation of mutual health organisations/insurance schemes and exemption schemes at district levels; experience in mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS interventions/programmes into non-health sectors; building capacity and training of researchers and fieldworkers on economic evaluation and data collection, designing of social, cultural and economic questionnaires for data collection and analysis, monitoring and evaluation of district, donor and community funded programmes. Immense experience also in monitoring and evaluation of health interventions (i.e., malaria, HIV/AIDS and population and reproductive health programmes).
