He is board-certified in pulmonology and fellowship-certified in Sleep Medicine in the United States. He specializes in various types of sleep and forms of sleep diseases including sleep apnea syndrome, insomnia, narcolepsy, and restless leg syndrome to name a few. He was the first doctor in nation that was able to diagnose narcolepsy and pioneers in the treatment of sleep apnea by nasal CPAP. His research currently focuses on the pathogenesis and outcome of sleep apnea syndrome. He is also interested in craniofacial profile, upper airway structure and cardiovascular outcome of sleep apnea syndrome.
Dr. Chen is the first doctor in Taiwan who received his sleep medicine training at the world-renown Stanford Sleep Disorder Clinic in 2000. As a pioneer in Taiwanese sleep medicine, he founded the Taiwan's Sleep Society--the second largest sleep society in Asia--and further established the first sleep medicine scholarship based course in Chang Gung University, Taiwan. Published in the highest ranking international "SLEEP" journal in 2013, the Sleep Center at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital is now listed among the best in its field, competing with the top 9 international sleep institutions in the world including the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Sydney, Berlin, Ohio, Paris, and Iceland to name a few. Dr. Chen has been a speaker and moderator in many conference around the world. He is also the Secretary General of the World Sleep Federation since 2012. At present, he has published more than 80 articles in high ranking international journals (SCI). He also published books of sleep medicine in Taiwan.
