My scientific interests concern polarimetry of young stars of the T Tauri type, astrobiology (using spectropolarimetry to detect signs of life), spectroscopy (of hot Be stars with dust), and optical/infra-red imaging (to find new young stars of the Herbig Ae/Be type).
I am currently the chair of the Maunakea Astronomy Outreach Committee.
From June 2007 to June 2013, I was on the Canadian Astronomical Society (CASCA) Board of Directors, where I served as Secretary.
I have taught physics and astronomy classes at the University of Hawaii in Hilo, and an introductory online astronomy course for the Mānoa Academy.
