Nicholas Clemons

A/Prof. Clemons is a Group Leader in the Gastrointestinal Cancer Program and head of the Tumourigenesis & Cancer Therapeutics Lab at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Tasmania, Australia (majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) and his PhD ("Modulation of death-receptor induced apoptosis by Hsp72") at the University of Melbourne, Australia based at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. His first post-doctoral position was with Prof. Rebecca Fitzgerald in the MRC Cancer Cell Unit at the Hutchison-MRC Centre, Cambridge UK where he developed his interest in the biology of Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal cancer. Dr. Clemons returned to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre to work in the lab of Prof. Wayne Phillips to develop models of Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal cancer for the study of the underlying biology and testing of novel therapeutic strategies for this disease. He now runs his own lab continuing this research theme.
