个人简介
Following the award of a Master of Science in Molecular Chemistry with Honours (Universite de Rennes, France) and a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering (Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie de Rennes) in 2008, Nicolas Barry began his research career by studying for a PhD in Chemistry under the supervision of Professors Süss-Fink and Therrien at the Université de Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He graduated in March 2011 with the highest grade “Félicitations du Jury”, and also won the Syngenta Monthey Price for departmental best PhD thesis.
He then secured two Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships (12 months each) and joined the University of Warwick in October 2011 to work with Professor Peter J. Sadler FRS for two years. During this time, he secured a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship for three years, which he began at the University of Warwick in January 2014.
In 2016, Nicolas was awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship (URF), which he took up at the University of Bradford, where he also secured a Lecturer position. His research aims to investigate the fabrication at the atomic level of novel metal complexes, nanoparticles, and drug delivery systems. His contributions, which span several areas of inorganic and materials chemistry, are broad and range from (i) achieving the synthesis of challenging 16- and 18-electron complexes combining unusual ligands (carboranes) and precious metals (ruthenium, osmium) (ii) investigating their encapsulation in micelles made of polymers (iii) exploring the anticancer activity and neutron capture ability of the resulting micellar formulations.
Since 2008, he has authored 42 research papers (h-index 21), 1 patent (PCT/GB2015/051264), and has been awarded 4 fellowships: Swiss National Science Foundation Fellowship for Prospective Researchers, Swiss National Science Foundation Fellowship for Advanced Researchers, Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship, and Royal Society University Research Fellowship. He has also secured 3 research grants since 2013 that have allowed him to employ a PDRA and begin to establish his own research group. He has also developed a large network of collaborations in the UK, and overseas.
