Nigel J. Copner

Nigel Joseph Copner received the B.S. (Hons.) degree in physics from Reading University, U.K., in July 1988, the University Diploma degree in analytical physics, in July 1990, and the Ph.D. degree in laser physics from Swansea University, U.K., in October 1992. From 1992 to 1993, he was a Research Fellow at Aston University, U.K. From 1993 to 1998, he was an Assignment Manager and a Project Manager at the Defence Research Agency, Malvern, U.K. From 1998 to 2003, he worked as a Senior Manager and the Technical Director at JDS Fitel, JDS Uniphase, USA, and Procen Ltd., U.K. From 2005 to 2008, he was a Senior Research Fellow at Swansea University, U.K. Since 2009, he has been a Senior Research Fellow and a Professor (Chair) with the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science, University of South Wales, U.K. He has an extensive patent portfolio more than 30 generated during his successful career in Silicon Valley working at JDS Uniphase as a Senior Manager; San Jose, DERA as a Research Fellow; Malvern, Renishaw; and through his work with the University. His research interests include tunable lasers, laser metrology, photonics sensing, metamaterial, and nano plasmonics.
