His awards include the 2019 Fluorous Technologies Award, the 2009 IUPAC Young Chemist Award, the 2009 CrystEngComm Lectureship, the 2005 ‘‘G. Ciamician’’ medal of the Division of Organic Chemistry of the Italian Chemical Society, and the 2005 Journals Grant Award of the Royal Society of Chemistry. In 2017 he won the SWITCH2PRODUCT Innovation Challenge of the Politecnico di Milano, with the project MINIRES. He is the Chair of the Editorial Board of CrystEngComm (RSC), Co-Editor of Acta Crystallogr. B (IUCr), and member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Cryst. Growth Des. (ACS).

He is author of 290 publications with 19528 citations (H-index: 63).

Since 2013 he is being European Research Council (ERC) grantee with the projects “FOLDHALO – Folding with Halogen Bonding” and “MINIRES – A Minimalist Peptide Elastomer”, aimed at investigating the relevance of biomolecular halogen bonds.
