Ralf D. Prien

Ralf Prien (Senior Member, IEEE) was born in Preetz, Germany, in 1964. He graduated in physics at the University of Kiel, Kiel, Germany, in 1991. He received the Ph.D. degree in optical attenuation sensors for oceanographic applications from the University of Kiel in 1999. In 1999, he joined the Ocean Engineering Division, Southampton Oceanography Center, Southampton, U.K., where he was a Research Fellow. Since 2005, he has been a Research Scientist with the Marine Chemistry Department, Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde, Rostock, Germany, and the Head of the working group on Chemical In Situ Sensors. Mr. Prien has been a member of the Oceanic Engineering Society and the Instrumentation and Measurement Society of the IEEE since 1999. In 2006, he became a member of the AGU.
