He was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science (FAA) in 2004. He has over 300 publications, cited more than 35,000 times, and an h-index of 96 (Google Scholar). He has served as a member of NHMRC Research Committee, chair of the National Committee for Biomedical Science of the Australian Academy of Science, president of the Endocrine Society of Australia, and vice-president of the International Society for IGF Research. He became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2020 Queen's Birthday Honours "for significant service to medical research, to endocrinology, and to tertiary education".
