Robert Zierold

Robert Zierold received the Diploma degree in (medical) physics from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Halle, Germany, in 2009, and the Ph.D. degree in physics with focus on nanoscience from Universität Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany, in 2013. He held a postdoctoral position in the group of Prof. Kornelius Nielsch working on materials growth and characterization for magnetism, optics, and thermoelectrics. In 2015, he joined Prof. Blick’s Group, Center for Hybrid Nanostructures (CHyN), Universität Hamburg, as a permanent Senior Scientist position leading the bio-materials team. His research team explores tailor-made nanostructures as artificial cell culture substrates for guiding neuronal network formation and protein mass spectrometry. His special research interest is in atomic layer deposition, which he uses to prepare nano- and microstructures for application in superconductivity, thermochromics, and photonic crystals.
