Her research focuses on the genetic regulation of metastasis, the major cause of death in patients with solid cancers. She utilises preclinical models of breast cancer metastasis and clinical samples to identify new targets for molecular based therapy for patients with progressive disease.
She has a particular interest in targeting genes in the tumour microenvironment, in host fibroblasts and immune cells, that regulate the process of metastasis to specific organs such as bone, liver, lung and brain. These preclinical models are also used for trialling novel anti-metastatic agents, often in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies.
