Stefan Sunaert

Stefan Sunaert is a senior clinical investigator of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO). He is Professor of Radiology at University of Leuven/BE teaching: a) “Introduction to radiology and nuclear medicine” in the master of medicine, faculty of medicine, and b) “Radiology for physiotherapists” in the master of revalidation of physiotherapy, faculty of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science. He is also an attending physician in Neuroradiology. He heads a research group that investigates the functional and structural organization of the normal and pathological human brain by the combination of functional MRI and diffusion tensor imaging. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed international papers. Since 2013, he is the president of the Benelux Chapter of the international society of magnetic resonance imaging in medicine (ISMRM). He was section editor ‘Functional and molecular imaging’ of the journal Neuroradiology, course director of the ESMRMB – School of MRI on clinical fMRI, past member of the scientific advisory board of the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR), past member of the Postgraduate Educational Program (PEP) of the European Congress of Radiology 2010 (European Society for Radiology), past member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee (AMPC) of the international society of magnetic resonance imaging in medicine (ISMRM), and member of the organizing faculty of the ECNR and Erasmus Courses. Finally, he was the winner of the Horlait-Dapsens Medical Scholarship 2001, the Nomination of Excellence for the Sixth Lucien Appel Prize for Neuroradiology 2002, winner of the ECR 2004 Research & Education Fund, and winner of the Outstanding Teaching Award of the ISMRM in 2008 and 2011.
