He has published over 280 papers in peer-reviewed journals. The research in his group is mainly devoted to quantum information and quantum computing for complex many-body systems. He was the director of the NSF-funded Center of Innovation on “Quantum Information for Quantum Chemistry” from 2010 to 2013 and is currently the director of the Center for Quantum Technology at Purdue. He has served on the editorial boards of several journals, including Molecular Physics, Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Physical Chemistry, and Papers in Physics. He was an External Research Professor at the Santa Fe Institute from 2013 to 2019. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Guggenheim Fellow, a Purdue University Faculty Scholar, a National Science Foundation CAREER Award Fellow, a recipient of the 2012 Sigma Xi Research Award, the 2019 Herbert Newby McCoy Award from Purdue University, and the Visiting Miller Professorship Award from Berkeley for 2024-2025.
