Samuel Ayodele Iwarere

I am an emerging researcher focusing on applied plasma technology research, working in the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Pretoria (UP). I have a BSc with Hons in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, an MSc.Eng (Chemical) and a PhD in Chemical Engineering obtained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in South Africa. I was trained in Plasma Technology under the Plasma Group at Mines ParisTech (now part of PSL Research University, France), supervised by Professor Laurent Fulcheri (Mines ParisTech) and Professor Deresh Ramjugernath (UKZN). I have three years of Postdoctoral experience (2014 to 2016) and three years (2017 to 2020) as the Principal Investigator and Project Leader on a Water Research Commission funded project that investigates the use of non-thermal plasma technology in tertiary wastewater treatment. From 1 May 2020, I am a Principal Investigator on a Plasma Water Purification Project linked to a FLAIR Fellowship, a partnership between the African Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society funded by the UK Government as part of the Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF). My current research activities involve understanding plasma-liquid interactions in water and wastewater treatment using experimental and computational approaches and other plasma related applications, including solid waste volarisation. I believe in collaborative work with industries and other academia, ranging from researchers in agricultural science, biotechnology, chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, and plasma physics towards capacity building in applied plasma research.
