Bio
Alexander Shalashov received the B.S. degree in physics and the M.S. degree in physics of plasmas from Nizhny Novgorod State University (NNSU), Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, in 1996 and 1998, respectively, and the Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees in physics and mathematics from the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IAP RAS), Nizhny Novgorod, in 2004 and 2011, respectively.
He has been with IAP RAS since 1998 and with NNSU since 2005. He was invited as a Research Fellow with the Max-Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, Garching and Greifswald, Germany, from 2000 to 2007, and with the Institute of Plasma Physics, CNR-ENEA, Milan, Italy, and CRE-ENEA Laboratories, Frascati, Italy, from 2004 to 2006. He has been a Leading Researcher with the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Novosibirsk, Russia, since 2014. He is the Head of the Microwave Plasma Heating Group with the Federal Research Center, IAP RAS, and a Professor with NNSU. He is an Expert in high-temperature plasmas, microwave plasma heating and diagnostics, plasma-wave interactions, and electrodynamics of anisotropic and gyrotropic media. He has authored or co-authored over 150 journal articles and conference papers.
Prof. Shalashov received the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Sciences for Young Scientists for his series of publications on Electrodynamics of High-Temperature Plasmas Confined in Magnetic Traps in 2007. He is a Federal Expert of the Russian Ministry of Science and Education, and an Expert of the Russian Science Foundation and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
