David Sobral

I am a Reader in Astrophysics at Lancaster University. Currently I teach modules in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years to our fantastic Physics students at Lancaster, and also supervise typically 3-4 MPhys students per year. The projects that I offer use state-of-the-art data to conduct observational and theoretical research in the field of Galaxy formation and evolution, near and far. In my research, I perform a wide range of observations and use different telescopes on the ground and in space in order to understand how galaxies like our own formed and evolved from the primitive Universe till today. Specifically, I use a range of narrow-band filters to survey the Universe as it was at high look-back times and see how it evolved from just after the Big Bang until today.
