Stephen Pennington

Steve has been Professor of Proteomics at University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland since 2003. He is a chemist and biochemist by training (BSc Imperial College London and PhD, University of Cambridge). His research interests and activities are focussed on comprehensive proteomics scale analysis of protein expression and function to support improved understanding of mechanisms of disease progression and diagnosis in oncology and inflammatory disease. His research team are developing multiplexed protein biomarker measurements using MRM mass spectrometry to support the development of blood-based biomarker tests. Steve has given over 250 invited presentations at international events, published over 100 scientific papers as well as editing and contributing to several books. Steve is President of the British Society for Proteome Research (www.bspr.org) and President of HUPO (www.hupo.org). In 2017 he was the lead organiser of 16th Human Proteome Organisation (HUPO) World Congress (www.HUPO2017.ie) which was held in the national Convention Centre in Dublin and was preceded by a gala dinner at which former Vice-President Joe Biden was guest of honour.
