He founded the field of Porous Liquids by conceptualising them in 2007 and subsequently leading the experimental demonstration of some of the first key examples. He has also pioneered in the field of mechanochemistry, contributing both fundamental and industrially applied work to field, particularly with regard to reaction kinetics, MOF and organic synthesis as well as scale-up through twin screw extrusion techniques.
