Bio
Tomoyuki Akiyama was born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, in 1970. He
received the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctor of Engineering degrees in electric engineering from the
University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 1993, 1995, and 1998, respectively. In 1998, he joined Fujitsu, Ltd., where he
was focused into investigation of optical properties in quantum dots and their applications. In 2006, he cofounded QD
Laser, Inc., funded by Fujitsu, Ltd., and Mitsui Ventures, Co. Ltd., and started mass-production and -marketing of
quantum-dot optical devices for communication, display, and material processing. He has presented and
authored/coauthored more than 100 technical papers including more than 10 invited papers in international journals and
conferences.
