Nagel Thomas

Thomas Nagel received the MSc degree in mechanical engineering/applied mechanics from the Technische Universität Chemnitz, Chemnitz, Germany, in 2008 and the PhD degree in computational mechanics/bioengineering from Trinity College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland, in 2012. He is chair with Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg and adjunct professor with the Zhejiang University in Hangzhou. Previously, he headed the Computational Energy Systems and Environmental Geotechnics working groups with the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research GmbH (UFZ). His research interests include continuum mechanics and multiphysics processes in porous media with applications in energy, geotechnics and biology. Since 2012, he is contributing to the development of the numerical simulation platform OpenGeoSys for coupled multiphysics problems. His specific development focus is on nonlinear mechanics, high-temperature applications in reactive porous media, geotechnical applications in energy supply, storage and waste management, as well as uncertainty quantification.
