Thomas Reiner

Dr. Thomas Reiner is an Associate Member and Laboratory Head at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He also serves as an Associate Professor at Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Thomas Reiner received his PhD in 2009 from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, where he was trained as an organometallic chemist. After graduation, he accepted a position as a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Systems Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital under the mentorship of Ralph Weissleder and was promoted to Instructor at Harvard Medical School in 2011. The following year, he transferred to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. At Memorial Sloan Kettering, his laboratory is developing and evaluating new imaging agents for whole-body imaging and intraoperative imaging applications. His main focus is to selectively label malignant growths in vivo to allow for their detection, treatment, and removal. He believes that the next generation of selective imaging agents will result in better and more-sensitive detection of tumor tissues, which will ultimately benefit patient treatment.
