As a Transplant Hepatologist, I have tried to ask questions that are relevant to my every day practice. First, making observations while caring for patients, then making a hypothesis , then devising a way to test the theory. Areas of particular interest of mine have been ultrasound use with liver biopsy and in the bedside diagnosis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Treating HCV and preventative care in the setting of chronic liver disease have been additional themes of my body of work. Being inquisitive is a key factor in the process as is the ability to follow through with your work. I highly recommend keeping academics a part of your daily/weekly/ and lifetime goals in your own career. Tom Riley
