His positions there were project leader for gas turbine combustion (1988), group leader for combustion and heat transmission (1990) and head of the aero- and thermodynamics department (1992). Prof. Sattelmayer was appointed to the Chair of Thermodynamics in 1997 and has been its Director since 2000. Prof. Sattelmayer was a member of the Board of Directors of the International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI) of ASME. He was also spokesman of the KW21 (power plants for the 21st century) research initiative for Bavaria. He has authored 553 scientific publications and holds approximately 40 patents.
