Bio
My research has integrated mass spectrometry and proteomics technology towards answering important biomedical and biological questions. I conducted my PhD thesis work on the mechanisms of renal fibrosis in diabetic nephropathy utilizing mass spectrometry methods to identify novel molecular components in the TGF-β signaling pathway. During my thesis work I coordinated multiple collaborations including the identification of a key biomarker, PLA2R, in idiopathic membranous nephropathy using proteomic and mass spectrometric approaches. Following this, I was awarded a fellowship at the MRC-Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit in Dundee, Scotland combining my expertise in molecular biology and proteomics methodologies to identify and characterize the function and mechanism of a novel family of PLD-like non-catalytic proteins called FAM83s. In my current role I implement quantitative mass spectrometry to identify and validate biomarkers in FSGS, MCD, MN, and IgAN. Previously, my work has included proteomics analyses of urinary exosomes, extracellular vesicles, microparticles and protein-protein interaction networks in a kidney pathology context.
