Ugo Cortesi

Ugo Cortesi received the Laurea degree in physics from the University of Florence, Florence, Italy, in 1993, and the post-graduate degree in optics from Scuola di Specializzazione in Ottica, National Institute of Optics, Florence, in 1996. Since 1993, he has been working for the Italian National Research Council (CNR), where he is active as a Senior Research Scientist leading the Atmospheric Sounding Group, Institute for Applied Physics (IFAC), Florence. His competence and expertise include design, implementation, and use of FTS instruments for atmospheric remote sounding, scientific and validation campaigns from stratospheric platforms, direct and inverse modeling of radiative transfer in the Earth’s atmosphere, feasibility and requirement studies of spaceborne missions for remote sensing of atmospheric composition, and investigation and application of innovative techniques of data fusion. Since 2013, he is a member of the ESA Mission Advisory Group of Sentinel-4/-5, and from 2016 to 2019 he coordinated a Horizon 2020 project on synergistic use of data from the atmospheric Sentinel missions of the Copernicus Program.
