Vittorio Pace

My main research line has been focussed on Organic Chemistry, more concretely in the synthesis of bioactive compounds by using chemical and biocatalytic methods. After receiving my Degree in Pharmacy (1984) at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), I started my academic career as Assistant Professor (October 1988-October 1989) at the School of Optics of UCM, joining afterwards the Faculty of Pharmacy of UCM, also as Assistant Professor fron October 1989 iuntil September 1994. During this period, I received my PhD (Sobresaliente Cum Laude) in Pharmacy in September 1991 at Complutense University of Madrid under the supervision of Prof. Carmen Avendaño and Monica M. Sollhüber. After that, I completed a postdoctoral stay in the Institute de Produits Naturelles, Centre National de la Recherche Scientific (GIF-sur-IVETTE, Francia), from October 1991 to October 1992, working on the oxidation of oximes, amidooximes and hydroxyguanidines by diometildioxirane. Finally, in October 2002 I was appointed Profesor Contratado Doctor (permanent Assistant Professor, current position) at the Department of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the Faculty of Pharmacy at UCM. I am co-author of 20 publications in high impact factor international journals such as Eur. J. Pharmacol., Current Neuropharm., Green Chem., Adv. Synth. Catal,, Org. Lett, or J. Org. Chem. Angew. This work has been recognized with 2 Possitive Evaluations (Sexenios) by the Spanish National Accreditation Agency (ANECA). Additionally, I have collaborated in a Book Chapter, and I was the editor of a book on Nomenclature of Organic Compounds, published by Realigraf Editorial. My scientific results have been presented at international meetings and conferences, in 24 communications. I have also participated as researcher in different R&D projects funded through competitive calls of public entities: 1 European project, 10 National Projects,1 Local Project, (Community of Madrid), 1 Spain-Germany Accion Integrada as well as 3 research contracts with Pharma Industry (Instituto Biomar, S. A.). Finally, I am co-autor of a Patent. During these years, I have co-supervised 2 Ph.D. Thesis with European Mention (one of them granted with the Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado) and 5 Master Thesis. Additionally, I have been member of working group in 5 Educational Innovative Projects. Finally in 1991 I received the Santos Ruiz Prize from the Spanish National Royal Academy of Pharmacy (RANF).
