Walter Assmann

Walter Assmann received the Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Munich (LMU) in 1981 for a thesis in nuclear physics and the Habilitation degree in experimental physics from the LMU in 2004. Since 1973, he has been working with the Accelerator Laboratory, Ludwig–Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), and the TUM (Garching), first on the development of new accelerator structures and neutron detectors, thereafter as a group leader of materials research with energetic heavy ions. Then, he was the project leader of two multidisciplinary projects for preclinical studies of radioactive medical implants. After his retirement in 2011, he continued to work in medical physics developing ultrasound detectors for range determination in particle therapy.
