William Teague, MD, is a pediatric pulmonologist, who helps children with severe asthma, chronic cough, and lung disease. An Atlanta native, Dr. Teague knew at the age of 20 that he wanted a career in medicine. Since then, he has devoted more than 30 years to caring for children with respiratory disorders. He has also focused his research on finding new treatments for these children.

In his clinical care, Dr. Teague’s patient approach is to always start with listening to the patient and their family. This is crucial, since each patient’s unique story can determine their outcomes. Before starting any treatment, Dr. Teague works to diagnose the patient and explain their treatment options. By emphasizing flexibility in treatment options, he’s better able to advocate for the needs of his patients.

“I am always open to pray with my patients when they want me to,” Dr. Teague says. “I am also aware of the high costs of medical care and try to reduce costs when practicable in treatment.”

Early in medical school, Dr. Teague realized that the top clinicians also excelled in research and teaching. In pursuit of excellence, his career has focused on the three pillars of research, teaching and mentoring, and treating patients.

As evidence of his commitment to public education, Dr. Teague graduated from a public high school, university, and medical school. At the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Teague’s academic performance earned him a nomination to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
