Bio
Dr. Wang was educated in the two fields, (i) Solid Mechanics with the focus on theoretical and computational mechanics of composites, fatigue and fracture, and smart materials and structures, and (ii) Mechanical Engineering with the focus on understanding the fabrication and mechanics of nanostructures using atomistic modeling.
Currently, his research interests are focused on quantitative exploring the structure-properties relationships of structural and nanostructured materials using multi-scale methods and techniques. Combining theory, modeling and experiment, at atomic scale using Crystallography and Defect theory, Density Function Theory and Molecular Dynamics, and Transmission Electron Microscopie; at micro/meso-scales using Dislocation Theory and Interface Defect Theory, Interface Dislocation Dynamics, and Microscopies (TEM, SEM and EBSD); and at macro-scale developing physics-based predictive materials modeling tools (Interface Crystal Plasticity Models) that incorporate interface physics characterized and simulated at atomic/micro-scales.
The goal is to develop principles of designing materials with the desired properties (strength, ductility, deformability, fracture toughness, and damage resistance under mechanical and radiation extreme) by tailoring microstructures and interfaces.
