Dr. Cantor is an internationally recognized leader in the field of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). This reputation stems in large part from his first author New England Journal of Medicine publication in 2009 on the role and optimal timing of routine percutaneous coronary intervention, PCI - also known as angioplasty - in STEMI patients. This landmark paper has been cited more than 600 times and has led to major changes in professional practice with regards to the management of STEMI patients.
In recognition of his professional leadership in the field, Dr. Cantor was elected President of the Canadian Association of Interventional Cardiology. He also participates in committees for the Cardiac Care Network of Ontario, The Canadian Cardiovascular Society, The (American) Society for Coronary Angiography and Intervention and the Ontario Medical Association. In these roles, he develops practice guidelines, expert statements and other documents for the treatment of coronary artery disease across Canada and worldwide.
