Tao is professor in rock mechanics at Northeastern University in China. His research focuses on the time-dependent deformation and fracturing of rocks and associated stability analysis of rock mass. He was granted five NSFC programs, 5 research programs from MOE, etc. He has ever academically visited EPFL in Switzerland, Monash University, University of Melbourne, University of Strasbourg, and University College London. Tao is actively participating in professional activities. He is deputy secretary general of commission for international exchange and cooperation of CSRME, Executive Council Member of North-eastern Branch of CSRME, Committee Member of Commission for Rock Fragmentation of CSRME.
