My research is focusing on hereditary factors in prostate cancer. It is well known that established prostate cancer is an androgen dependent malignancy, but it is not known whether androgens also are initiating the disease or if genetic variants in the androgen receptor play a role for the prostate specific antigen (PSA) secretion, which commonly is used in prostate cancer screening and follow-up. In order to investigate these issues, large cohorts of both patients and individuals from the general population are scrutinised, national registries utilised and interesting findings further evaluated in experimental settings.
