Dr. He is an associate professor in the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine. He also has a joint appointment in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and is affiliated with the Center for Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics and the Comprehensive Cancer Center. Oliver is an expert in comparative medicine, microbiology and immunology, and bioinformatics. His primary research themes are protective Brucella immunology and vaccine development, comparative genomics,biomedical ontology development and applications, Bayesian network analysis, and vaccine informatics. Oliver has initiated and led the development of several community-based ontologies including the Vaccine Ontology (VO) and Ontology of Adverse Events (OAE). He is interested in applying ontology-based bioinformatics approaches to compare the similarities and differences between laboratory animal models and human diseases. Oliver has co-chaired five international workshops, is an editorial board member of four peer-reviewed journals, and has been an ad hoc member of over 10 national and international grant review study sections. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed journal articles, proceeding papers, and book chapters.
