Dr. Ziming Xuan is a social epidemiologist who is interested in understanding the long-term influence of social-contextual determinants on health and health-related issues (i.e. mental health and addictions), especially among vulnerable populations. His current research interest focuses on: 1) understanding the relationship between state-level adult alcohol consumption and youth binge drinking at individual level; 2) evaluating the impact of state-level alcohol policies (i.e., tax) on alcohol consumption especially as related to binge drinking, alcohol-impaired driving, and alcohol dependence. He studies the contextual variation and determinants of severe alcohol consumption, access to treatment, and related mental health, especially among vulnerable populations, such as adolescents. He is also interested in evaluating policies related to alcohol advertisement. Dr. Xuan graduated from Harvard University with a Doctorate of Science degree (Sc.D.) in Public Health and a Master degree (S.M.) in Biostatistics.
