Bio
Hyung Mok Lee is primarily investigating the dynamics of stellar systems such as clusters and galaxies that are composed of large number of stars.
Among four fundamental forces only gravity plays the role in the dynamics of star clusters and galaxies. In order to study the dynamics of such objects, we use purely theoretical approaches as well as the integration of Fokker-Planck equation or N-body equations. Through such studies, we investigate how the dense star clusters have evolved and how they will evolve in the future. Also we study the how binaries composed of black holes and neutron stars are formed and evolved into very compact binaries that could emit gravitational waves in order to prepare for the era of gravitational wave observation in the near future, As a member of the world-wide LIGO Scientific Collaboration, we participate the data analysis of gravitational wave detectors.
In addition to the theoretical researches described above we also use the infrared data obtained by AKARI space telescope as well as other facilities to study the physical properties of star forming galaxies and the hostory of star formation over cosmic time.
