I am a highly motivated microbiologist with an interest in integrating evolutionary principles into our understanding of the major challenges facing public health, in particular, the emergence and persistence of resistance in pathogenic populations. I am currently working as a laboratory based research assistant with the Modernising Medical Microbiology (MMM) group at the University of Oxford. In my role, I coordinate and carry out the extraction of DNA and RNA from a range of clinical samples and non-clinical isolates. The projects I am involved in include: the Environmental Resistome project (REHAB); the real-time metagenomics sequencing of influenza outbreaks; and the GonFAST project, which looks to develop direct from sample sequencing of neisseria gonorrhoeae infections.
