I am a physician with clinical research emphasis on vaccine-preventable diseases, immunizations, emerging infections, arboviral infections, and diseases associated with globalization and travel. I direct the Travel Medicine Center at Mount Auburn Hospital and am Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. I served as President of the International Society of Travel Medicine (www.istm.org) 2019-2021. After graduating from Harvard University followed by Jefferson Medical College (Thomas Jefferson University), I trained at New England Deaconess Hospital (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center) followed by Yale-New Haven Hospital in Infectious Diseases. I am a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH), and International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM). I serve as the site director for the GeoSentinel Surveillance and Research Network and Global Travel Epidemiology Network, and have served in several Working Groups of the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. My research areas include vector-borne diseases (highlighting yellow fever, malaria, dengue, chikungunya, Zika, Japanese encephalitis, tick-borne encephalitis, rickettsioses), immunizations and vaccine decision-making, and travel-related infectious disease epidemiology. My recent research has focused on cross-border healthcare and the globalization of healthcare, and the associated transfer of infectious disease agents. These efforts aim to improve immunization in relevant populations and decrease morbidity and mortality in international travelers and migrants. I also serve as a Co-Chair of the Beth Israel Lahey Health (network of 14 hospitals) Vaccine P&T Subcommittee. During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, my responsibilities pivoted to include clinical work in the Covid-19 clinic, oversee our mass vaccination centers for Covid-19 and influenza vaccination, develop/support the monoclonal antibodies clinic, design/coordinate clinical research projects, and provide education and updates on Covid-19 to colleagues, trainees, and the public.
