Bio
Susi Pepe was born in 1978. Graduated in Geological Science at University of Naples FEDERICO II in the 2002 with a thesis: ‘Analysis of the fragmentation process of Plinian eruptions: the case of Vesuviu’s. In the 2007 obtained the Ph.D., Soil Science at University of Naples FEDERICO II, with a Ph.D dissertation relevant to enhancement and management of Agro-Forestry Resources with Thesis: ‘Andosols and debris flow in Campania region (south Italy)’. She worked with University of the ‘Studi della Basilicata’ (Department of Department of Engineering and Physics of the Environment), University of the ‘Studi di Bari’ (Department of geology and Geophysics) for the soil study in landslide and gullies areas from 2004 to 2007. Jointly received a scholarship at CRdC- Amra for analysis and monitoring of environmental risk (from2006 to 2007). Susi Pepe from to 2007 to 2011 obtained a research grant as Volcanologist at IREA CNR and from 2011 to today is researcher at the same institute.
More than 16 years the research activity focused in the field of Earth Observation (EO), with particular attention: (1) to the processing of multi-platform SAR (DInSAR) differential interferometry data (ERS1 / 2, ENVISAT, COSMO SKY_MED, TERRASAR- X, RADARSAT, ALOS1, SENTINEL 1A, using the SBAS (Small Baseline Subset) technique;(2) to applications in the Earth Sciences of satellite products, with particular reference to the analysis, modeling and interpretation of soil deformations in volcanic and seismogenic areas and in landslide risk areas, providing a key contribution during the crisis phases that have occurred in the Phlegrean and Etnean area. Susi Pepe has also participated in high-precision leveling campaigns in the area of the Phlegraean district; (3) The development of analytical and numerical models for the interpretation and characterization of the structures that control the evolution of the deformation patterns of active Italian volcanoes, such as the Phlegraean district, the Sum-Vesuvius complex, Mount Etna, the Aeolian islands, Europeans, such as El Hierro (Canary,Spain), Santorini (Greece), and distributed in the different continents: America (Galapagos island, Hawaii islands ), Africa (Nabro and Dallol), Japan (Kirishima and Sakurajima). Recently, the research activities have also been focused on the Thermal data acquired from several satellite platforms such as LANDSAT, SENTINEL, ASTER and MODIS, as well as measurements carried out by new UAV platforms.
